The Red Truck 7wt Switch Rod
You string up your switch rod on the tailgate of your pick up, grab your tips, a spool of 12lb mono, and a box of flies and hit the trail. You meander through redwoods until you emerge at you favorite run. Several large boulders make for perfect steelhead holding water. You cast your fly upstream of the first boulder and let it soak. A big upstream mend just as your fly is over the rock and your swing starts. Your confidence is not shaken when you come up empty handed… after all you are swinging for chrome. As the day nears an end you switch it up to indicators and pull a fish out on the last boulder.

I absolutely love this rod! I’ve had the chance to try about six different Skagit heads on it and have found that the sweet spot is between 450gr and 500gr. I ended up sticking with an Airflo 490gr 19.5ft switch head, extremely compact and punchy with a short stroke. Today I tried a RIO Skagit Max Short 450gr and the rod loved that line too, could lengthen out your stroke and let it fly. Finish is wicked with the unsanded blank, had people drooling over it at the local spey clave!!

I love this rod it was my first switch rod. I use the Rio switch line on it and casts like a dream. This is my second Red Truck rod and customer service is amazing. I’m stuck on Red Truck Rods for life.

I absolutely love this rod. Swinging steelhead to bobber fishing pyramid, it’s a work horse. I use a Rio Scandi head 400grain, it’ll roll over a 15 ft leader no problem on the salty pond. I’ve landed multiple double digit fish on this rod, handles the big boys no problem. Cuts headwind like a champion. You’ll bomb casts like never before. Definitely one of my favorite rods in my vault. Red truck for life.

I’ve been a huge fan of this rod since I purchased it back in ‘12. To be honest, it is still my go to rod for small and medium sized rivers. While this rod casts skagit heads like a dream, it is absolute butter when paired with a 420 Scandi compact.
While it is gentle enough to fully enjoy your average Great Lakes steelhead, it still has plenty of reserve power to turn big salmon.

I LOVE this rod, smooth action, subtle touch, and cast like a dream. Very light for a 7wt and it allows you to feel the fish fighting on bigger and smaller fish. Customer service is second to none!

I’ve used this rod for Pyramid Lake in Nevada with large bobber rigs and swinging for steelhead in the PNW. This rod is fantastic. It fights fish very well and the rod is a 10/10 enjoyable to fish.
